Šupková, Lucie ; Pelcová, Naděžda (advisor) ; Hauser, Michael (referee)
The bachelor thesis deals with the problem of understanding in the philosophy of Hans-Georg Gadamer, a 20th century German philosopher. The aim of this thesis was to explain the problem of understanding and to remind how understanding is important in all areas of human activity. The first part explains what hermeneutics is, its transition from regional to general hermeneutics, and the transition from epistemological to ontological hermeneutics. The second part introduces the various philosophers who are involved in hermeneutics, namely Friedrich Schleiermacher, Wilhelm Dilthey, Martin Heidegger, Paul Ricoeur and Hans-Georg Gadamer. The bachelor thesis draws most heavily on the works of these authors. The third part discusses the basic themes of hermeneutics with regard to the philosophy of Hans-Georg Gadamer. The last part explains the concept of historical consciousness and its influence on understanding oneself in dialogue. It also discusses the principle of the merging of horizons and the importance of conversations.
Images from Hell - Totalitarian Systems through the Eyes of Literature
MUSÍLEK, Daniel
The thesis examines totalitarian regimes of the 20th century through comparative analysis of three selected literary works from different cultural backgrounds. The selected works are The Gulag Archipelago by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, Wild Swans by Jung Chang and Still alive by Ruth Klüger. The comparative analysis of the works will be carried out using an eclectically constructed hermeneutic method. This method will give structure to the analysis. The aim of the thesis is to answer the question of whether it is possible to use a literary-philosophical approach such as hermeneutics to study historical events recorded in literary works. In addition, the analytical part of the thesis deals with the question whether common and objective elements of a totalitarian system as such can be found across culturally different totalitarian systems.

Philosophical Essence of Questioning
Mejšner, Štěpán ; Fajfr, Marek (advisor) ; Blažková, Miloslava (referee)
This diploma thesis aims to examine the philosophical essence of questioning. My task was to present a cross-section of philosophical thoughts and to separate their essence of questioning and to present their structure. Compare these structures with other studied philosophers and find their similarities or, conversely, the exact opposite. The problem that some philosophers are dealing with and some will omit altogether is the language itself. Language is also a partial answer to the nature of the questioning as such.
Reflexion of Child's "Canonical Approach"
Pavlík, Mikuláš ; Beneš, Jiří (advisor) ; Hrabáková, Eva (referee)
Anotation This diploma thesis "Reflection of the Canonical Approach of Brevard S. Childs" deals with the charakteristic focuses and postulates of the canonical approach of Brevard S. Childs with focusing on his two important publications: Introduction to the Old Testament as Scripture (1979) and Biblical Theology of the Old and New Testaments (1993). It shows a short intersection of his longterm academic exploratory work and with respect to the interpretative emphasis describes a brief overview of history of the canon exploration from the Reformation to the so called New Biblical Theology. The content centre of the diploma thesis is to introduce the main methological foundations of Childs'canonical approach with regard to its central postulates - for example: canonical intentionality, final form of the text, etc. and to those hermeneutical elements which are applicable in practical pastoral work of the church. At the end of the diploma thesis there is a short practical guide to the theological exegesis based on the main hermeneutical principles of the Childs'canonical approach.
Meaning and Understanding in the Context of Thought of Jacques Derrida and Hans-Georg Gadamer
Voborský, Lukáš ; Fulka, Josef (advisor) ; Novotný, Jaroslav (referee)
Meaning and Understanding in the Context of Thought of Jacques Derrida and Hans-Georg Gadamer The focus of the present study is mainly on the discussion of the process of understanding and emergence of meaning. Using the example of Gadamer's hermeneutics it becomes clear what are the limits of positive attempt to express conditions of understanding within the context of the philosophy of finitude. In spite of its undeniable benefits, hermeneutic understanding shows itself to be vulnerable towards ideology and it could be seen as suspected of hidden normativity thanks to its emphasis on agreement and coherency. Derrida's deconstruction on the other hand shows the dynamics of emergence of meaning in language, it emphasizes plurality and ambiguity in contrast towards totalizing unicity and agreement; however, due to this approach, it is unable to offer anything close to what we call the truth. In a parallel line of interpretation, philosophical- antropological approach of Ernst Cassirer standing in comparison with Heidegger's existential analytics of Dasein shows that already at the fundamental level in the process of establishment of terms and concepts and earlier our understanding is already determined to a certain extent. Discussion between Gadamer and Derrida shows a necessity of certain arbitrary...
Resurrection of Jessus of Nazareth as a Question of Hermeneutics
Mašatová, Nina ; Lukeš, Jiří (advisor) ; Pospíšil, Ctirad Václav (referee)
The thesis deals with the message of the resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth, which is crucial for Christianity and its relevant hermeneutical approach. In the first chapter we analyze the contemporary hermeneutical context of the message within the Hellenistic and Hebrew cultures. In the second chapter we present an analysis of pre-Pauline faith confessions, Paul's texts and synoptic Gospels focused on targeted formulating of the message for respective communities and their cultural background. The last chapter wants to present some contemporary relevant hermeneutical approaches to this message. One of them could be the so called mythmaking, which emphasizes the necessity of permanent updating of accepted opinions, messages and realities. We can observe the mythmaking process already with the New Testament authors and each and also our generation is expected to bring the message about the resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth to future generations in a relevant way. Old Testament Interpretation and the Postmodern Conditions
Zatroch, Ondrej ; Lukeš, Jiří (advisor) ; Biernot, David (referee)
The task of diploma thesis "Old Testament Interpretation and the Postmodern Conditions" is to critically reflect the course and current issues of Old Testament research. This reflection is based on the analysis of research situation and chosen approaches to the Old Testament. The thesis shows, that the Old Testament interpretation must be based on lively dialogue. It doesn't mean just the dialogue with the biblical texts or the state of current research, but also with the situation of the world often called as "postmodern". The important assumption of this diploma thesis is that the authentic interpretation includes also the constant and deep self-examination of interpreter and his place in the society. It doesn't mean, that the interpretation ought to be the self-presentation of interpreter. On the contrary, it should remain critical and solid, but also enacted in deep solidarity with the neighbour and shared world. The results of this diploma thesis show the importance of keeping the critical grounds of Old Testament research and interpretation. Only the intensive and unappealing criticism could be a basis for the future quality and solidness of the research and upholding its matter in wider research community and society. Another important aspect is the solidarity with the world. It means that...
Akutagawa Ryūnosuke and His Considerations on Literature
Bedáňová, Veronika ; Tirala, Martin (advisor) ; Weber, Michael (referee)
The thesis is focused on a literary theoretical debate between two outstanding Japanese writers: Akutagawa Ryunosuke and Tanizaki Junichiro. As a reaction to this debate, Akutagawa wrote a literary critical essay Bungeitekina, amarini bungeitekina (Literary, All Too Literary) which contains Akutagawa's considerations on literature and which is analyzed in this thesis. I have also devoted my thesis to other literary theoretical essays written by Akutagawa. The goal of this thesis is to follow the influence of Akutagawa's literary considerations of his works and also to set his work into the wider context of Japanese literature. Hermeneutics is the methodology chosen for this work. To achieve the set-out goal, biographies on Akutagawa and other literary studies focused on Akutagawa were studied.
